Artist’s Bio

Richard

is an award winning Freelance Artist, Designer and Craftsman,

producing a diverse repertoire of work in painting, sculpture, illustration, architecture and graphics.

In 1975 Richard earned a B.F.A. from the University of Hartford, studying primarily with Prof. Wolfgang Behl, Loyd Glasson, and Rudolph Zallinger. During his under graduate study years, he also attended The Boston Museum School of Fine Arts. In 1978 and 1979 Richard completed graduate work in sculpture and Design at the University of Wyoming under the auspices of the internationally acclaimed sculptor- Robert I. Russin and worked closely with the Environmental Artist Stan Dolega on several Art in Public Places grants and commissions including the largest individual grant from the NEA, the Hannna Project. This project incorporated funds from the NEA and the RAMP (superfund) program to provide a land sculptured, environmentally blended reclaimation project offering community recreation opportunities.

Richard’s creations have appeared in a wide variety of forms including cover art, illustration and design for prominent magazines, books and promotional literature. A well known example of his sculptural graphics is “granite center” a 24ʼ high illuminated granite, identity sculpture in Westerly, Rhode Island. He is also credited with the Identity graphics design package for the New Britain municipal Stadium in New Britain, CT. Richard’s art has appeared in numerous shows through out the country and abroad including several Earth work sculpture installations in the northwest. In addition, Richard has received numerous grants and awards throughout his career. Some of the most notable are: an Artist in Residence grant from the Connecticut Commission on the Fine Arts in 1976, a fellowship to the university of Wyoming in 1978, appointment to co-manage one of the largest earthwork sculptures ever funded by the N.E.A. in 1979, the “best in Show” award for carved graphics from the U.S.S.C. in 1993 and first place award for sculptural graphics from the C.S.A. in 1996. In addition to freelance graphics and illustration, Richard served as Senior Art Director for CPTV creating hundreds of promotional, advertising, marketing, video and on air graphics.

After leaving CPTV, Richard went on to concentrate on creating Fine Art imagery for inspiration, motivation and Healing. He is also known for his extensive contributions to the Spiritual community, in the form of Graphic Design and Illustration for promotional and educational material, CD’s, videos and print. His personal work is focused on developing powerful images to inspire, heal and transform the viewer, supporting their personal growth and spiritual evolution.
